Learn to Fly provides Tandem 'air experience' flights and hang gliding Lessons between April and November in the dual approved VX ATOS, the insurpassable 'rigid wing' hang glider from A-i-R!

So what sort of HANG GLIDER do we use? The Atos VX is manufacturerd in Germany by A-i-R, and uses state of the art rigid wing technology. The VX is a large version of the VR, and designed for 2 people, maximum all up weight 220kg. With raised wing tips and tail fin stabilizer, the glider pulls effortlessly behind our QUANTUM 912 tug microlight. After releasing from the tow we can enjoy the purest form of flight... Free Flight! The glide ratio of the Atos VX is fantastic, and even when 2 up or 'tandem', the sink rate is ridiculously good. A tow to 2000ft will take approximately 4 minutes - then after releasing from the tow, in 'still air' we can expect about 15-20 minutes airtime which allows the novice pilot to get a real taste of what hang gliding is all about!

So what is HANG GLIDING all about? Learn-to-Fly is all about making your first hang gliding experience a truly memorable one, so we aim to take you flying when conditions are smooth and the air not too rough. We therefore generally fly between 8am and 11am and 4pm to sunset. These are the times of day when the air is less thermic. PLEASE NOTE: Hang Gliding is not like going for a ride at a funfair… we will only fly when the conditions are suitable. We reserve the right not to fly if the pilot deems the conditions have become unsuitable.

A cautionary word What the BHPA says....(BHPA website.) Gliding is a gentle art, a game of aerial chess with a superb bird's eye view, suitable for the thinking outdoors' type. A first days hang gliding is great fun for almost anybody without too much physical effort, but to continue a course you must be reasonably fit and active. You must be over 18 and accept that "adventure sports" carry an element of risk. However, if you receive proper instruction and follow the rules and sensible guidelines that have been established over many years, the risk is quite acceptable and the pro's of flying far outweigh the cons.
